— Publishing Today —

Summer 2011, I and three other writers started a publishing co-op. We pooled our design, marketing, legal and business skills and created a collective. So far we’re four books strong with more on the way.

Blue Mesa Books is in distribution channels. We’re helping authors every step of the way. If no one in the collective can do what you need, we can hook you up with a team of talented experts, often willing to cut rates for our authors. Also, we’re not about making a profit, but about producing quality books. Blue Mesa Books gets 20-percent of a sale, authors take the rest.

What follows are tips and downloadables—some free, some for a pittance—all offering information gleaned from what we’re learning at
Blue Mesa Books.

Tips for Getting Your Book Out There

Tip #1 Creating Ebooks the Easy Way

70% of ebooks are bought for Kindle, 20% for the Nook. Even the iPad now has Kindle and Nook Apps.

The biggest hurdle in ebook creation is reformatting a manuscript.

Download our handy $5 guide for formatting manuscripts for ebooks. This is for text-only books—no navigable table of contents, no images. Just words. Perfect for novels and memoirs.

It only takes a few hours to do all the steps and you’ll have the satisfaction of doing it yourself.
